Research protocol: Since 1979 we have established a novel epidemiologic approach to investigate possible associations between cancer and environmental exposures in the workplace. It is a case-control type study whereby all patients in the Montreal area with newly diagnosed cancers of certain sites, among males aged 35–70 are interviewed by specially trained interviewers, as is a control series selected from the general population. Fourteen cancer sites have been included. Each subject is asked to enumerate the jobs and industries he has worked in and also to provide a detailed description of the tasks performed and materials manipulated in each job.

Original language: French Title: STUDY INTO THE ADSORPTION CAPACITY OF CARCINOGENIC MOLECULES ON ASBESTOS OR OTHER PARTICLE MATERIALS. Research protocol: A number of industrial processes using carbon at high temperatures release potentially very toxic substances, such as polyaromatic hydrocarbons, which dangerously pollute the atmosphere. The latter present well-known carcinogenic properties. It is known that polyaromatic hydrocarbons are physically and chemically adsorbed by asbestos. The study of the adsorbtive properties of asbestos and other particle materials vis-à-vis toxic products, will lead to a better understanding of the causes of asbestosis and other lung diseases associated with certain workplaces.
